Virtual Demo
PhonoDirect is designed for vinyl enthusiasts, to help them chose the right phono cartridge for their system. It is meant to be used short term for those who just need to find their next cartridge, or long term for seasoned audiophiles who change their systems on regular bases and dealers to demo phono cartridges without mounting and dismounting them, for a side by side comparison of any combination.
Recording
At PhonoDirect we record phono cartridges directly (line level recorder input), without any additional circuitry, so that you can hear only the cartridge, for comparison and virtual demo purposes. We offer two versions of these recordings, DSP RIAA corrected and boosted for regular playback, and Raw recordings for Phono playback (PhonoDirect Attenuator Cable required). These recordings are designed to help you select a cartridge for your phono system and are meant to be played back in your system, with your room acoustics, or using headphones.
Attenuator Cable
The Raw files are boosted to ensure optimal DAC operation and to pick up the least amount of noise from it. To enable playback you will need our attenuator cable which protects your equipment by limiting the signal to the appropriate phono level.
